Hempcrete is made by mixing the hurd (the core of the hemp plant), natural air lime and water. This solution can be mechanically sprayed onto temporary or permanent cladding, or poured into formwork, lightly compacted, and then allowed to cure for approximately 6 weeks before rendering/sealing with a permeable, water resistant lime render.
Hempcrete walls are generally 200-350mm thick and contain millions of tiny air pockets. These air pockets provide excellent thermal properties, allow the wall to breath which helps reduce VOC build-up in the home, and regulate humidity by absorbing and releasing moisture as required. Hempcrete is also pest, fire and mould resistant.
